Nome residents gathered at a church vigil and fundraisers were scheduled in at least two communities, as the region came together in the wake of the tragedy.

The passengers were all adults. Several were from the Anchorage area, two were from Unalakleet and the pilot and one passenger were from Nome.

Authorities hope to recover the bodies of 10 people assumed killed, document evidence for investigation, and recover the plane wreckage while conditions are relatively safe.

State troopers said local author Thomas McGuire, 79, went skating alone and failed to return, and that his vehicle was found in a parking lot near the lake.

The Coast Guard said three people were found dead inside of the plane, and it's clear from the wreckage there were no survivors.

Police say they searched East High and Russian Jack schools and found no weapon.

Assistant Fire Chief Alex Boyd said having three fires all happening in such close proximity almost pushed the department to its limit.

It’s been over a year since a landslide devastated the Wrangell community, killing six people. Last month, geologists presented their work from a visit to the slide over the summer.

In a letter to the Senate, the governor said the bill would help protect Alaskans' privacy, which is guaranteed by the state constitution.

The city’s only ambulance service ended its contract with the city last month.

The weekend operation follows President Trump’s vows to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, calling his plan the “largest deportation program in American history.”

He is the first person fatally shot by Anchorage police this year.
