LISTEN: Treating infertility in Alaska

A baby swaddled in a blanket
In 2019, almost 1 in 10 births in Alaska was preterm. That’s as high as it’s been in the last two decades, according to a bulletin released from the state Department of Health and Social Services on March 16, 2021. (Creative Commons photo by Dru Kelly)

Approximately one in eight couples are affected by infertility in the United States, and this number is increasing each year.

A reproductive endocrinology physician provides advanced infertility procedures. In Alaska, many patients must travel out of state for the treatment.

But Alaska does have some infertility services to bridge the gap — and provide much needed evaluation and treatment options closer to home.
