In Anchorage a 150-bed shelter opened on Oct. 31 in an unused municipal building. It was supposed to be the final piece of Anchorage's emergency shelter plan for this winter. But less than a month into the winter shelter season, there's a waitlist with about 1,000 people on it. Jeremy Hsieh has this story.

Jeremy Hsieh reported on Anchorage for two years beginning in October 2022, but now trains and edits other public media reporters around the state through the Alaska Desk. Reach him at jhsieh@alaskapublic.org or 907-550-8428.
