A giant, artificial igloo marks the halfway point between Fairbanks and Anchorage along the Parks Highway. It was supposed to be a roadside hotel, but it never opened for business. Our field producer Emily Schwing has more.
In 1952, an apartment building called the Polaris opened in downtown Fairbanks. The hope was that a vibrant community would grow up around it, and for a time, it was a popular spot.
