Talk of Alaska: Statehood 50 years later, 50 years forward

It was on a primary election day exactly 50 years ago today that Alaskans agreed to become the 49th U.S. state. Even after Congress passed the statehood bill and President Eisenhower signed it, the issue had to be taken to the people. This week we take a look back at what Alaskans were thinking as they voted “Yes” for statehood and look forward to what the next 50 years might bring.
