Russia to File Formal Claim in Arctic Ocean

Steve Heimel, APRN - AnchorageRussia has told a Moscow conference on the Arctic that it intends to file a formal claim to a large undersea ridge in the Arctic Ocean with the United Nations.  Russia first claimed the area in 2001, but was rejected for lack of evidence.  Now there is new undersea mapping, done by both the U.S. and Russia.  The Arctic boundary between the two nations is considered a settled treaty.Download Audio (MP3)
