Halibut commission boosts coast-wide catch limit
The International Pacific Halibut Commission Friday approved an increase in halibut catch limits for most of the coast. The joint U.S. and Canadian body oversees management of the prized bottom fish from California to Alaska. The commission held its annual meeting in Juneau last week and approved a coast-wide catch of just under 30 million pounds for 2016. That’s an increase of two point two percent from last year’s limits.
Eva Saulitis to be honored Friday in Homer
The community of Homer is mourning the death of a beloved writer, scientist and teacher. Eva Saulitis died January 16th of cancer. Homer Council on the Arts will award Saulitis a lifetime achievement award, posthumously, on Friday. The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College will hold a memorial reading in the evening. Homer police charge man with armed robbery
Homer Police Chief Mark Robl says a man arrested last week after a chase is being charged with armed robbery. 30-year-old Dellan Vanbuskirk, of Homer is being charged with two counts, says Robl.

Bethel City Council imposes 6-month hold on marijuana operations
Bethel City Council unanimously passed a six-month moratorium on marijuana license applications on Tuesday. The moratorium places a hold on the city processing any land use, zoning, or licensing approvals for marijuana operations in Bethel.
