Former state Sen. Hollis French is among the 14 applicants seeking to replace retiring Judge Michael Spaan on the Anchorage Superior Court.
The Alaska Judicial Council will advance to Gov. Bill Walker at least two nominees for consideration following a process that includes background checks and personal interviews.
Rather than seek re-election last year, French sought and won the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. He stepped aside when the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Byron Mallott, joined forces with Republican-turned-independent Bill Walker on a so-called unity ticket.
The other applicants for the judgeship are: Elizabeth Brennan; Dani Crosby; Kevin T. Fitzgerald; Josie Garton; Marcelle McDannel; Michael Moberly; Carolyn Ann Perkins; Timothy P. Peters; Herman G. Walker Jr.; Stacy Walker; Jonathan Woodman; and magistrate judges Sidney Kay Billingslea and Michael Joseph Franciosi.
