Whales used to be a common sight around Kodiak Island, but in recent years, locals have observed fewer of the iconic mammals. Last year, several whales were found dead near the archipelago; their bodies were emaciated and in extremely poor health. As KMXT’s Brian Venua reports, scientists aren’t sure why the population is struggling. He joined researchers for a necropsy of one of the whales in an effort to learn more.
