Authorities say two people have been killed in crashes with moose in Anchorage this weekend.
Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro says in news releases that 45-year-old driver Gerardo Lopez Rios died early Saturday and 38-year-old motorcyclist Justin Jones died early Sunday, both after striking one of the animals.
On Saturday, police and fire officials arrived to find a moose lying in the road and Rios’ Subaru sedan in a ditch. Police say the injured moose was euthanized. No one else was in Rios’ car, whose front end and windshield were damaged.
The moose that Jones hit Sunday died. His motorcycle kept going down Minnesota Drive. An SUV avoided it, but crashed into a guard rail. That driver wasn’t injured.
