A Bethel man died Tuesday night after police officers shot him. The Bethel Police Department has not released the name of the person, saying they still need to contact his next of kin and confirm his identity.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. when police officers were called to a disturbance at a home in Bethel. Police are not releasing the address of the home at this time. While they were there, a police officer fatally shot a man.
Afterwards, police officers called the Alaska State Troopers in Bethel who sent over three troopers to help secure the scene.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Anchorage flew in personnel Wednesday morning who are in the process of investigating the incident and processing the scene.
The man’s body is being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
In a written statement, Bethel police say they plan to release the name of the officer who was involved in the shooting in a later press release.
