Voters Kivalina have overwhelmingly said yes to building a school at a new location. Kivalina City Clerk Marilyn Swan says the unofficial count in Tuesday’s election was 107-11 in favor of the proposed school site about seven miles northeast of the Inupiat Eskimo community.

The orangey goo that gunked up Kivalina’s shores earlier this month was first thought to be some kind of microscopic egg. But now, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration researchers say it’s actually the spores of a plant fungus.

Federal scientists say they have tentatively identified the mysterious orange goo that showed up recently in a lagoon near Kivalina.
