Share Our Strength Founder to Speak in Anchorage

The Imaginations of Unreasonable Men and Women in Creating Community Change.

More than 17 million kids in America are at risk of hunger. That’s nearly 1 in 4. What is being done to combat this epidemic that continues to plague the nation?

On Friday, October 7th, Share Our Strength founder and executive director Bill Shore will be in Anchorage addressing the Alaska World Affairs Council about this very topic in a program titled, "The Imaginations of Unreasonable Men and Women in Creating Community Change" at the Hilton Hotel.  Mr. Shore founded Share Our Strength in 1984 in response to the Ethiopian famine and the focus it placed on the hunger problem in the United States.

In addition to political involvement – serving for multiple U.S. Senators from 1978-1991 – Mr. Shore has authored four books focused on social change, including Revolution of the Heart (1995), and The Imaginations of Unreasonable Men (2010).  Through Share our Strength, Mr. Shore has raised and invested more than $315 million to fight childhood hunger, and garnered the support of well-known national leaders in a variety of fields, including Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges, who serves as a spokesperson for the organization.

Here is a video describing the project:
