Alaska State Troopers shot and killed a man on Saturday who they say was hiding in a camper in Houston and pulled a gun on them.
Troopers said they had been searching the property around 11:30 p.m. to find and arrest Kyle Lambert, 34. Court records show Lambert, of Wasilla, was wanted on a $5,000 felony warrant issued Wednesday for violating his conditions of release on October theft and drug charges.
Trooper spokesman Austin McDaniel said troopers knew Lambert frequented the Houston property and they searched the area for several minutes before finding the camper.
“Troopers located (Lambert) hiding in a camper on the property, which he refused to exit despite the troopers' orders to do so,” troopers said in an online report. “As troopers entered the camper to arrest (him), he produced a handgun.”
Three troopers shot Lambert, McDaniel said.
The shooting is being examined by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, troopers said, and will be subsequently reviewed by the state Office of Special Prosecutions.
Lambert’s family has been notified, troopers said, and his body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The troopers who fired on him have been placed on seven days of administrative leave, in accordance with state policy. Their names will be released three days after the shooting.
