Two of the three Killer Whales that swam far up the Nushagak River from Bristol Bay are dead. NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service confirmed the whales' deaths after reports from a local resident, Chris Carr of Portage Creek.Carr said he spotted the first whale as he traveled downstream to Dillingham on Saurday.Carr afterwards saw the calf , which was still circling in the river.A little later, he found the second dead whale.Barbara Mahoney is with NOAA's National Fisheries Service field office in Anchorage. She says a team of scientists will arrive in Bristol Bay this week to investigate the deaths and if relocated, monitor the calf.Listen to the full storyDownload Audio
