The major oil companies spent more than a million dollars lobbying the Legislature in hopes of changing Alaska's oil-tax regime. What did they get for their money? Fairbanks played host to Gov. Sean Parnell this week. He was promoting natural gas and economic development. What does he have in mind? The Air Force says it will save more than $20 million by moving a wing of F-16s from Eielson to Elmendorf. How does Fairbanks react? The filing deadline for the Legislature approaches. AK: Anchorage DJ Teaches Mountain View Kids to Spin

The Mountain View Boys & Girls Club is packed with kids after school. One reason they show up is the music. There's a room filled with instruments and a digital production studio. Now an Anchorage DJ who grew up in the neighborhood is adding to the mix by sharing his craft.

Fourth Avenue, Natives and B Girls

In the early fifties, Alaska Natives made up less than a third of Anchorage’s population. In the forties, a court order had officially put a dent in racial segregation, making it illegal for businesses to post signs forbidding entrance to Natives, but it was another ten or fifteen years before the shock to the white population wore off and proprietors greeted my Athabascan relatives with a smile.
