Flood Warning: Prince William Sound

The NWS Anchorage has issued a

* FLOOD WARNING FOR SOUTHEAST PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND

INCLUDING CORDOVA

EYAK RIVER

EYAK LAKE

* UNTIL 400 PM AKDT THURSDAY

THE EYAK RIVER IS ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE AND EYAK LAKE IS ABOVE

MODERATE FLOOD STAGE.

CORDOVA RAINFALL AMOUNTS HAVE EXCEEDED 8 INCHES AT THE CORDOVA

AIRPORT AND 17 INCHES AT THE CORDOVA BOAT HARBOR OVER THE PAST

THREE DAYS.

COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE MODERATE RAIN ON MONDAY FOLLOWED BY HEAVY

RAIN OF UP TO FOUR INCHES ON TUESDAY.

EXPECTED IMPACTS:

POWER CREEK ROAD HAS BEEN CLOSED AND WATER IS STARTING TO REACH

HANGERS AT THE AIRPORT. DUE TO CURRENT HIGH RIVER LEVELS AND

PREDICTED RAINFALL…FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE SEVERE

THROUGH MIDWEEK.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED.

STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW AND FLASH FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED.

HOWEVER…ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS

IMMEDIATELY.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES…DIPS…OR LOW WATER

CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM…EVEN A SMALL

ONE…ON FOOT. IF YOU ENCOUNTER A FLOODED

ROADWAY…TURNAROUND…DONT DROWN.

REMAIN CAUTIOUS WHEN IN LOW-LYING AREAS…AND REPORT ANY FLOODING TO

YOUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY. THEY WILL RELAY YOUR REPORT TO THE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN ANCHORAGE.
