Gov. Sean Parnell has chosen Shelley Hughes to serve the remainder of the late-Rep. Carl Gatto’s term.
Parnell announced the pick at a Tuesday afternoon news conference in Palmer.
Republicans from Gatto’s district in Palmer sent Parnell the names of three potential candidates: Hughes, David Eastman and Marvin Yoder. Hughes had earlier filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission, signaling her intention to run for Gatto’s seat.  The process now calls for ratification by House Republicans.
Gatto died April 10. He was 74.
