The Alaska Local Boundary Commission has approved the City of Dillingham’s petition to annex the waters off its shore. City Manager Dan Forester says the approval came after the city went through a process of consultation with local fishing communities about the fish tax that would likely result. Nothing would happen until after an election.
Forester saysthe vote - probably next spring - will include both the annexation of the Nushagak Commercial Fishing District and approval of a two-point-five percent raw fish tax. Nushagak is the only district in Bristol Bay that is not part of a municipality and where a raw fish tax is not collected.
