FOSTER CARE IN ALASKA

There are approximately 2,000 children – newborns to teenagers – in foster care in Alaska. On tomorrow’s show we’ll learn about how recent changes in foster care legislation are affecting these kids. We’ll also find out: what happens to children when they “age out” of the system, and about the special considerations for Alaska Native children in foster care as dictated by the Indian Child Welfare Act. Our guests are Representative Les Gara, Travis Erickson of OCS and Amanda Metivier of Facing Foster Care in Alaska. Also on this program – two foster youth share their stories and explain what makes for a loving foster home.

Tune in to KSKA-FM Tuesday, February 1 at 2pm or 7pm to listen. As always, you can hear the full show, see pictures and listen to additional clips at KidsTheseDays.org where you can also leave your comments about this program.
