Eagle River's 25-year-old Corey Cogdell, is headed to the summer Olympics in London. International trap shooter Cogdell won the U.S. Olympic Trials in Tuscon, Arizona by 10 shots, beating out four other women. She hit 47 out of 50 targets at morning trials on Sunday to take the lead into the final trial. Cogdell will be the only U.S. Olympic competitor in women's international trapshooting at the Olympics this August.

Tora Thynes, A Norwegian Immigrant’s Story

Tora Thynes was born in Norway and emigrated to the U.S. as a young girl, sponsored by her aunt. In this interview, she tells Heidi Lee about life in Norway during the German Occupation of WW II, and watching warships from both sides of the conflict come into the fjord near her village. She also tells about fishing in Petersburg with her husband Pete on the sailboat/troller he named after her and about her many trips to Norway with her family.

Anchorage-Wide Children’s Book Drive Underway

Senator Bill Wielechowski and thread -- Alaska's statewide Child Care Resource and Referral agency are launching their 6th annual children’s book drive. He always loved drawing and cartooning, but never really thought that he would be able to make a living off of it. So, Chad Carpenter decided law enforcement was the path he would take, until he got a little encouragement from an instructor and he decided to leave the trooper academy and take up cartooning full time. After getting "Tundra" off the ground in Alaska and hustling state fairs, his passion started to take off, making it into over 500 newspapers nationwide so far. In “The Enchanted Island,” the lovers from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream are shipwrecked on the other-worldly island of The Tempest. Inspired by the musical pastiches and masques of the 18th century, the work showcases arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau and others, and a new libretto by Jeremy Sams. As host of the trilogy, von Seibold, a surprisingly agile and energetic 63 year old, gives viewers the full battlefield experience of three crucial points in World War II from the blood soaked beaches of D Day through Hell's Highway in Holland and to the frozen Ardennes forests of the Battle of the Bulge. In this first episode, land in Sainte-Mère-Église with the 82nd Airborne, scale the cliffs at La Pointe du Hoc with the Rangers, wade through the surf on Omaha Beach with the Big Red One and the 29th Infantry Division, and take the guns at Brecourt Manor with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
