Junior Iditarod Mushers Overnight in Yentna
Seward’s Conway Seavey has won the Junior Iditarod. Seavey arrived at the last checkpoint in Willow in 15 hours 52 minutes after the race’s start on Saturday.
Taming the Iditarod Trail
The Iditarod Trail was once a way to reach mining communities. Most of that is long gone, but economic activity has been returning to the trail in recent years. A mining road will be used to replace a dangerous set of switchbacks this year, and that could be just the beginning.

Fur Rondy Kicks Off In Anchorage
The 77th Fur Rendezvous kicked off Friday in Anchorage. One of the main events was the start of the Open World Championship Sled Dog Race. KSKA’s Daysha Eaton was there and chatted with some of the people attending.

Hugh Neff Wins Yukon Quest
Alaskan Hugh Neff has won the Yukon Quest. Neff outran Allen Moore by 26 seconds this morning in Whitehorse, Yukon to take the victory in the 39th running of the sled dog race. The Tok musher had come from behind to win. Neff had trailed Moore by 42 minutes on Monday.
Moore Still Leading Yukon Quest Field
Allen Moore is still leading the Yukon Quest. He left the Braeburn checkpoint late this afternoon, followed by Hugh Neff less than 45 minutes later.
Mushers Begin To Leave Dawson City
The top 3 Yukon Quest leaders are running tight, but the group behind is not giving up as teams head over the next 500 miles of trail toward the finish in Whitehorse.
Allen Moore First Musher To Reach Dawson City
Allen Moore of Two Rivers is first musher to reach the halfway point of the Yukon Quest. Moore was followed in closely by Lance Mackey and High Neff early this morning. As Emily Schwing reports, temperatures are climbing above zero, and mushers are starting to position themselves for a race to the finish.
Yukon Quest Leaders Expected In Dawson City Tonight
The first musher to the race’s halfway point at Dawson City is expected tonight. Mushers have been out of touch, on the remote 150 mile stretch of trail between Eagle and Dawson since last night when four-time champ Lance Mackey led Hugh Neff, Allen Moore, Brent Sass, Jake Berkowitz and Sonny Lindner out of the checkpoint.
Lance Mackey Takes Yukon Quest Lead
Lance Mackey has taken the lead in the Yukon Quest sled dog race. He arrived at Eagle Checkpoint at 2:08 this afternoon, with Hugh Neff one minute behind. Allen Moore and Brent Sass are also resting at Eagle. Meanwhile, a second musher has dropped out of the race. Rookie Jason Weitzel of Two Rivers scratched back at Circle.
Yukon Quest Leaders Leave Circle
The early leaders in this year’s Quest headed out of the Circle City checkpoint over 200 miles into the race, onto the frozen Yukon River this morning.
Brent Sass Leads Yukon Quest Mushers Into Circle
Nine teams arrived in Circle in the Yukon Quest early this morning, with Brent Sass in the lead. Followed by Hugh Neff, Sonny Lindner, Abbie West, Lance Mackey, Jake Berkowitz, Allen Moore, Kristy Berington, and David Dalton.
Iditarod Trail Altered To Avoid ‘Happy River Steps’
Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race organizers are deciding to make a change in the route for the 2012 race. This year’s race marks the 40th run, and it follows the Northern route.
Weather Advisory In Place Over Steese Highway, Part of Yukon Quest Trail
There is a winter weather advisory in effect over the Steese Highway, including Eagle Summit and over 100 miles of the Yukon Quest trail until early morning, Saturday.
Vets Checking Out Dogs Before Yukon Quest
Yukon Quest mushers brought their dog teams to a warehouse in South Fairbanks on Saturday to let race veterinarians look over all of the dogs signed up to run.

Rohn Buser Wins Kuskokwim 300
Rohn Buser of Big Lake won the Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog race Sunday in Bethel. The 22-year-old beat out a field of veterans including reigning Iditarod champion John Baker of Kotzebue, who finished a half hour later in second place.
