Fur Rondy Kicks Off In Anchorage

Fur Rondy Starts Friday

Anchorage’s Fur Rendezvous is set to begin Friday. The popular winter festival runs through March 4. Events including the annual ice carving competition and other events take place throughout the week. The Running of the Reindeer will be held downtown at 4 pm on Saturday March 3.

Senator Murkowski Brings Legislature Up-To-Date

Senator Lisa Murkowski gave her annual address to a joint session of the House and Senate in Juneau today, with a brief speech that ranged over a wide variety of federal issues that have impact on Alaskans.

Near the end of her presentation to the legislature today, Senator Murkowski asked lawmakers to communicate with the federal government and with her office about any concerns they might have.

KSKA has a great opportunity to air Radiolab in a way we've never been able to before. It's a popular program that's aired on KSKA before but always as a limited series. U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski touched on an array of federal issues that affect Alaskans in her annual speech to the state Legislature on Thursday.

SB53 Would Reestablish Alaska Commission on the Status of Women

Senate Bill 53 passed Wednesday in the state Senate. It would re-establish the Alaska Commission on the Status of Women, which was combined with the Alaska Human Relations Commission in 1993 and then that body was zeroed out of the budget.

Destination Of X-Band Radar Remains Unclear

The Missile Defense Agency is not saying if its huge X-Band radar is ever going to get to Adak, where it is supposed to be home-ported. It spends most of its time in Hawaii or at sea in undisclosed locations.

Fondly described as “Talladega Nights meets Catcher in the Rye,” “Racing Dreams” chronicles a year in the life of three tweens who dream of becoming NASCAR drivers. Though they aren’t old enough for driving licenses, Brandon, Josh and Annabeth race extreme go-karts at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in the World Karting Association’s national series, the “Little League” of professional racing.
