Treadwell Announces Candidacy For US Senate; And Murkowski Says She Now Backs Gay Marriage
Current Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell officially announces his run for the U.S. Senate in 2014. Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan announces his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor in the next election. Senator Lisa Murkowski says she now backs gay marriage. Proponents of a marijuana initiative have gathered enough signatures to get the issue on the 2014 ballot. In order to comply with the Clean Water Act, Anchorage Wastewater Utility may have to spend up to $800 million on equipment upgrades.

Grilled Halibut with Puréed Olive and Garlic Filling
The opportunity to grill and serve a halibut in the whole doesn’t come along every day, particularly in waters where 50-pound fish are more commonly caught than five-pounders.
But, I could feel the characteristic thumping of a halibut 130 feet below, and I knew the metal jig I was fishing might have found just the fish we were looking for.

Eating Well Aboard a Seward Sailboat
Today we’re eating well on the ocean. About three years ago Jack and Barbra Donachy decided to move to Alaska from California in pursuit of a subsistence lifestyle.
Today they are teachers in Point Hope, and spend their summers on a boat in Seward. They named it Bandon.

Glacier Trekking
A huge proportion of Alaska is covered with ice. A lot more than has towns and cities or anything man made on it. That’s a lot of country to explore, and its truly beautiful, like another world. On the next Outdoor Explorer the topic is glacier travel. We’ll be talking with a guide who takes newbies on glacier treks, a photographer who specializes in glacier journeys, and a glaciologist who goes to work on glaciers, and knows how they’re made.
