Il Volo Takes Flight

Italian heartthrobs Il Volo, comprised of the three “Teenage Tenors” Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, have been receiving unanimous raves for their vocal talent and showmanship since their May 2011 debut in America on TV shows including “American Idol,” “The Tonight Show,” “Ellen,” “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America” and “Entourage.” Already certified platinum in their homeland of Italy and several other countries, they have captured the hearts of Americans of all ages. Aleut Story

From isolated internment camps in Southeast Alaska to Congress and the White House, this is the incredible, untold story of Aleut Americans' decades-long struggle for human and civil rights. In 194, as World War II invaded Alaska, Aleut Americans were taken from their homes and removed to abysmal government camps 1,500 miles away. As the Aleuts prayed for deliverance, "friendly forces" looted their homes and churches in the Aleutian and Pribilof islands. Those who survied would fight for their rights - in the nation's courts and on Capitol Hill. KAKM: KAKM: Friday, 3/15 at 9:00pm

Soundcheck: Pamyua

Filmed at Tap Root in Anchorage, this is a live concert interview with a band that is known for their dancing as much as their musical performance. We also sat down with the band for an interview about thier Yup'ik roots. KAKM: Saturday, March 10 @ 8:00 pm

Object Runway

If you missed this sold out event, prepare to sit front row for the craziest fashion show that only Alaskans could envision. Our cameras were allowed behind the curtains to capture some of the excitement and nerves backstage. KAKM: Saturday, March 10 @ 8:45 pm

Big Band Vocalists

This special looks back at the “crooners” and “canaries” of the 1940s, featuring the greatest vocalists of the period when they started their careers performing with orchestras and dance bands. Among the legendary artists and timeless hits included in the rare, vintage footage are Louis Armstrong, Perry Como, Doris Day, Helen Forest with the Harry James Orchestra, Peggy Lee with the Benny Goodman Orchestra, Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting, Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and many more favorites from the World War II era. Day in Our Bay

The Day in Our Bay project began with a contest that put video cameras in the hands of BBNC shareholders living in the Bristol Bay region and challenged them to document what was most important and meaningful to them about the people , places, and cultures of their communities. Stories On A Winter’s Day

It was 1958 and twenty below outside. On Monday, Mom’s day off from her job at the library, 11AM was too early for television. I think it started around 2PM. TV was recent. We had three channels and, with wobbly rabbit ears on the roof, there was a lot of static. Read more.

Restoring Salmon Streams in Alaska’s Tongass

A Haida elder named Viola Burgess made history on this day. We were on the banks of a newly restored salmon stream in Alaska, where dozens of people had come from near and far to celebrate as wild salmon splashed their way upstream in crystalline water. Viola had renamed the stream, once so damaged it was thought to be beyond repair. Learn more.

Alaska Filmmakers host Joshua Lowman sits down with guest cinematographer, and co-founder of Sprocketheads, Steve Rychetnik. Steve has worked internationally as a cinematographer, and most recently taking on the role of camera operator for such films as "The Frozen Ground", "Big Miracle", and the "Baby Geniuses" series.
