Bill Stoltze Announces Run For New Senate Seat

Representative Bill Stoltze, a Republican from Chugiak, announced a new political path at the Mat Su Senior Center in downtown Palmer on Friday. Stoltze told the audience that his heart has always been in Palmer, and now he’d like to represent that city in a new state Senate district. He said he’d done “a lot of soul-searching” before making the announcement. Download Audio

A state court judge has ruled that Alaska's newly redrawn political boundaries meet constitutional standards. Superior Court Judge Michael McConahy issued the ruling Monday, granting the Alaska Redistricting Board's requests for summary judgment. Download Audio

With that in mind I headed East to hug grandchildren and see what was aesthetically pleasing. Our fall art tour took us to Philadephia, Washington, D.C. and New York City. Read more.

Labor Day: A Time for Gathering Signatures

Monday was Labor Day, set aside in both the U.S. and Canada to recognize workers. In Alaska, it was a day to collect signatures on two initiatives to protect workers. One is statewide – to increase the state’s minimum wage. The other asks Anchorage voters to overturn a municipal law that limits the rights of city employees.

Petersburg Republican to Seek House Seat

A Petersburg Republican plans to run for House District 35 in hopes of unseating a freshman Democratic representative from Sitka. Legislative districts for next year have not cleared a legal challenge but at least two people intend to run for the new district that includes Sitka, Petersburg, Craig and other communities on the northern half of Prince of Wales Island.
