Redistricting Map Heads Back To The Supreme Court
For the second time, Alaska’s voting district map is headed to the state Supreme Court. A week ago, a Superior Court judge rejected the state Redistricting Board’s amended version of the map, but earlier this week, the Board decided to appeal the lower court decision.
Municipal Leaders React to Election Commission Report
Municipal Leaders are reacting to a report by the Election Commission on the April 3rd Election. The Commission presented the report at a public meeting late Wednesday. It was critical of the clerk's role in the election, but said it should be certified. KSKA's Daysha Eaton has more.

Redistricting Plan Goes Back To The Drawing Board
It’s back to the drawing board for the Alaska Redistricting plan, after a state Superior Court decision sent an “amended” plan back to the panel last week. The state’s Redistricting Board met Tuesday to deal with the latest court rejection of the map of Alaska voting districts.
Judge Rejects Amended Redistricting Plan
A State Superior Court judge has sent an amended redistricting plan back to the Alaska Redistricting Board. Fairbanks judge Michael McConahy ruled Friday that the Board must draw a redistricting plan “solely compliant with the Alaska Constitution,” requiring the Board to “make findings of fact sufficient to allow the courts to independently measure each district against constitutional standards.”
State Rep. Sharon Cissna Will Run Against Rep. Don Young
State Representative Sharon Cissna is running for Don Young’s seat in Congress. She filed her paperwork with the Alaska Public Offices Commission this morning. Cissna is a Democrat who currently represents the University/medical district in Anchorage.
Redistricting Board Approves New Plan
The state's Redistricting Board met today (Thursday) to approve a new plan in light of an Alaska Supreme Court order. On March 14, the state Supreme Court ordered the plan be redrawn protecting the requirements of the Alaska Constitution. Read More

Polling Places Running Out of Ballots
Some polling places ran out of municipal election ballots. Lisa Reider-Bott of Eagle River said she arrived at her polling place at the Eagle River Lions Club about 6:00 pm but she couldn't vote. Municipal elections staff confirmed that they ran out of ballots at several locations including the Eagle River Lions Club and Service High School. Read More
Redistricting Plan Changes Skip Southeast
The Alaska Redistricting Board released the plan Tuesday. And Wednesday, it considered a consultant’s report saying it would significantly reduce Alaska Native influence in one Interior House district and one western Senate district.
Board Releases New Redistricting Map
There is a new state election district map out, but the state Redistricting Board warns it is just an intermediate step toward a plan that complies with the federal Voting Rights Act. The state Supreme Court ordered the Board to do a new map that set more of a priority on the requirements of the state Constitution. The Board has a consultant who is expected to provide an analysis Wednesday.
Petersburg Will Weigh In On New Legislative Boundaries
Alaska’s redistricting board will be hearing from Petersburg again as it puts together a new plan for the state’s legislative boundaries. The Petersburg City Council voted this week to re-submit a proposal that it remain in a district with Sitka instead of being bundled with the much larger city of Juneau.
Supreme Court Calls For New Voting District Map
The Alaska Supreme Court issued a ruling late yesterday requiring the Alaska Redistricting Board to draw up a new voting district map for the state. An earlier generated map is the subject of a legal challenge by two Fairbanks area voters, who claim it disenfranchises them, and the Supreme Court review is the latest step in the case.
Petersburg Leaders Encouraged By Redistricting Ruling
Petersburg leaders are encouraged by the Alaska Supreme Court order on the state’s new legislative districts. The Southeast City was the only other town that had challenged the Redistricting Board’s plan. In that case, the Superior court ruled in favor of the Board last December and the city chose not to appeal.
Supreme Court Hears Arguments Challenging Redistricting Plan
The Alaska Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday in a challenge to districts outlined by the Alaska Redistricting Board last year. Attorneys for the Redistricting Board are appealing part of a lower court judge's ruling that rejected the lines for districts 1, 2, 37 and 38.
