Officials Unsure When Richardson Highway Will Reopen
The state Transportation department now says they don't know when the flooded highway through Keystone Canyon outside of Valdez will be passable again.

Valdez remains cutoff by road from the rest of the state due to avalanches and flooding over the weekend. Progress has been made in clearing some of the debris on the Richardson Highway, but crews still have a long way to go.

Arctic Sea Ice Volume Up 50%
In October 2013, the European Space Agency satellite CryoSat measured 9,000 cubic kilometres of sea ice on the Arctic Ocean, said an ESA news release Monday. At the same time of year in 2012, it measured just 6,000 cubic kilometres — a record low.
ANB Harbor Replacement Moves Forward
In November, work began on Sitka’s ANB harbor. The $7.7 million project will demolish all of the existing structures and replace them with new floats and pilings by early spring. But a small invader in the harbor has added a wrinkle to the usual process.

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell won't allow a road through Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. Residents of King Cove have been asking the Interior Department for permission to build a one lane gravel road through the refuge for decades. They want easier access to Cold Bay, which has an all weather airport.

Kids at Unalaska’s United Methodist Church got to tell the story of Christmas during their annual living nativity last week. Fifteen elementary school kids from the congregation dressed up as wise men, shepherds and angels. Pastor Dan Wilcox helped lead the show.

Eagle Wreaks Havoc Inside Unalaska Ship Supply Store
Alaska Ship Supply had an unwelcome customer for about three hours Wednesday night -- a bald eagle, which flew in a loading door around 6 p.m. and refused to leave. The juvenile bird flapped around the store for about three hours before state troopers and employees were able to get it out.
