Skiff Found but Assistant Guide Missing
They have been searching for a missing assistant hunting guide near Koliganek. Alaska State Troopers report 44-year-old Brian R. Murray of Fairbanks has been missing since Saturday, when he failed to arrive at the village from camp upstream on the Nushagak River.
Wrangell ATV Trails to Close
The National Park Service is out with a final plan for managing off road vehicle use on popular trails in Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park. The plan and environmental impact statement cover trails in the northern part of the park and preserve, along the Nabesna Road, east of Glennallen.
Hydro Potential Seen in Western Alaska State Park
A Bristol Bay area power utility co-operative is looking at the possibility of hydro-electric generation from local lakes. Consultants are at work on engineering tests for the potential hydro projects.

Journal Article Shows Grizzly Bears May Be Suffering Under Predator Control
Intensive management, or lethal predator control, of bears and wolves is mandated by a 1994 law adopted by the state Legislature. But the authors of an article in the August issue of the Journal of Wildlife Management say the state isn’t doing the research necessary to know if its causing long-term, perhaps even permanent damage to Alaska’s grizzly bear population.
Petersburg Volunteers Free Whale from Fishing Gear
A team of volunteers from Petersburg freed a young grey whale that was tangled in what appeared to be foreign gillnet gear Friday. The animal was 20 to 25 feet long and looked to be in bad shape but rescuers are hopeful it will at least be able to feed again, now that it’s no longer entangled.
Bethel Loses a Major Landmark
Residents in Bethel have lost a major landmark. On Friday afternoon the Civil Engineer Corp brought down the White Alice radar. The radar towered over the city and much of the low lying region before it came crashing down.
Delta Junction May Need a Hospital
A group in Delta Junction is working to establish a hospital to help area residents who currently have to travel to Fairbanks or Anchorage for treatment.
FCC Chairman Visits Dillingham
Late last week, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission was in Dillingham to visit a project that will bring broadband Internet to much of Southwest Alaska. KDLG's Mike Mason was there.

Kenai Group Urges Fish and Game Against Sockeye Set-Net Opening
The Kenai River Sportsfising Association is raising the alarm about the late run of Kenai River King Salmon again. Saturday they urged the Fish and Game department to reconsider its Sockeye set-net opening at the river's mouth because an estimate by the Association shows the escapement goal for the Kings will not be reached.

It’s a new frontier in the telecommunications world. A fiber-optic cable has been placed under Lake Illiamna, in remote western Alaska, to bring broad-band internet access to villages across a large swath of the state.
Fuel Truck Rolls Over Near Manley Hot Springs
A fuel truck rolled over near Manley Hot Springs Thursday, but the state Environmental Conservation Department says the spill was minor. The semi, belonging to Colville Fuels, slipped off the muddy road into the ditch and the spill was from the cab, not the tank.
Partial FAA Shutdown Will Continue Through Congressional Recess
Congress wrapped up its summer work Tuesday without passing legislation to keep the Federal Aviation Administration open. Political bickering has partially shut it down – and may continue to until after Labor Day when Congress returns from its August recess.
Flood Closes Road to Exit Glacier
Tuesday, the National Park Service had to close the road to Exit Glacier outside of Seward because of flooding. Water is over the road and the gate will be shut until it is shallow enough to drive safely through again.
Body of Missing Hiker Recovered Near Herbert River
A hiker was found dead Tuesday near Juneau. James Reese, 42, was reported missing on Monday. His vehicle was found at the Herbert Glacier Trail trailhead and body was found near the Herbert River.

Alaska Delegation Will Vote in Favor of New Debt Ceiling Plan
All three members of Alaska’s Congressional delegation say they will vote for the deal to raise the debt ceiling and cut spending. The plan announced Sunday night by President Obama slashes spending by about a trillion dollars over the next decade and raises the debt ceiling in time for the U.S. to avoid defaulting on its bills.
Midair Collision Kills Four Near Trapper Creek
A mid-air crash Saturday between two single engine floatplanes in the Oilwell Road area south of Trapper Creek killed a family, whose plane crashed and burned.
