Frank Reed Passes Away At 99

One of Anchorage’s best-known residents has passed away. Frank Reed, who arrived in Alaska’s tent city on Ship Creek in 1915 as a toddler, died at Providence Hospital yesterday at age 99.

Ski Jumping in Anchorage Takes Off

Ever wish you could fly through the air like a bird? Well, ski jumping may be the closest we humans ever get. And, amazingly, you can learn how right here in Anchorage, at the Nordic Ski Association's ski-jumping program at Hilltop Ski Area. Some much-needed TLC this summer refreshed the jumps that Karl Eid opened in the 1980s. Now, the sport is growing again, ambitious to groom Alaskans in an Olympic sport with Nordic roots.
