Daysha Eaton holds a B.A. from Evergreen State College, and a M.A. from the University of Southern California. Daysha got her start in radio at Seattle public radio stations, KPLU and KUOW. Before coming to KBBI, she was the News Director at KYUK in Bethel. She has also worked as the Southcentral Reporter for KSKA in Anchorage.
Daysha's work has appeared on NPR's "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered", PRI's "The World" and "National Native News". She's happy to take assignments, and to get news tips, which are best sent via email.
Daysha became a journalist because she believes in the power of storytelling. Stories connect us and they help us make sense of our world. They shed light on injustice and they comfort us in troubled times. She got into public broadcasting because it seems to fulfill the intention of the 4th Estate and to most effectively apply the freedom of the press granted to us through the Constitution. She feels that public radio has a special way of moving people emotionally through sound, taking them to remote places, introducing them to people they would not otherwise meet and compelling them to think about issues they might ordinarily overlook.

Two women have been found dead in Anchorage this week. Both were found outdoors.
Dowling Remains Identified, APD Continues Investigation
View Quinhagak Street in a larger map The Alaska State Medical Examiner's Office has identified the deceased woman found in South Anchorage on Wednesday as 24-year-old Michelle Felber. Anchorage Police Department Spokesman Lieutenant Dave Parker says the Anchorage resident was reported missing by family members Monday, Oct. 8. But the family had not seen Felber for at least two months.
Another Body Found in Anchorage, Second in Week
View Larger Map The remains of another deceased female have been found in the Mountainview neighborhood of Anchorage. Police Department Spokesman Lieutenant Dave Parker says the woman's body was found by passersby around 1:30 Thursday afternoon near the Mountain View Community Church. The body will be sent to the medical examiner's office for identification. This is the second body found outdoors this week. Police are not making a connection between the two investigations.
Human Remains Discovered In South Anchorage
View Quinhagak Street in a larger map Police are investigating human remains found in South Anchorage. Anchorage Police Department Spokesman Lieutenant Dave Parker says the body was discovered about 11 a.m. Wednesday this morning. A man taking a shortcut home after dropping his car at a nearby garage discovered the remains.
APD Adds More Tasers
Thirty-six new hand-held tasers have arrived at the Anchorage Police Department. Police Spokesman Lieutenant Dave Parker says the new tasers will bolster the number of patrol officers carrying the weapons to about half.
Anchorage Housing Voucher Program Re-opens with Lottery System
A new Housing Choice Voucher Program could help some Alaskans struggling to pay the rent. The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation just opened a new lottery system for the vouchers. It will be used in Anchorage first, and officials say it will speed things up and could become a model for other communities.

Panels Discuss Studies for Pebble Mine in Anchorage
The second in a series of science panels about the proposed Pebble Mine, got underway Tuesday at the University of Alaska Anchorage library. Panelists are discussing studies conducted in the Bristol Bay Watershed, near the proposed Pebble Mine site in Southwest Alaska. Supporters say the panels will legitimize the science. Critics say that the panels, paid for by the Pebble Partnership cannot be objective.
Count Basie Orchestra Mentors Anchorage Students
Members of a legendary jazz ensemble that started in the big band era have been mentoring school kids in Anchorage. Members of the Count Basie Orchestra spent time with middle and high schoolers at 18 schools across the city, including with students from West High and Romig Middle School.
Mayor Sullivan Vetoes Repeal Of Sidewalk Ordinance
Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan yesterday vetoed the Assembly repeal of the sidewalk ordinance. Sullivan's Municipal Attorney maintains the ban on sitting on sidewalks is constitutional. The assembly vote was 7-2. It would take eight votes to over-ride the veto.
Assembly Passes Private Building Plan Review
This week the Anchorage Assembly passed an ordinance that will impact how building plans are approved. The ordinance allows builders to have single-family and two-family residential construction plans OK’d by privately contracted engineers, rather than through the municipal process. Officials say it will speed up the permitting process.
Anchorage Utilities Call for Plan B on Natural Gas
Utilities have been saying Anchorage is running low on natural gas for a while, but today they said it could happen sooner than expected. That was the message from utilities to the Municipality during a Mayor's task force meeting on energy today. The utilities called for a “Plan B” to address the situation.
Medical Examiners Work To ID Body Found Near Coastal Trail
Medical examiners are working to identify a body found near the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in Anchorage on Monday. Anchorage Police Department Spokesman, Lieutenant Dave Parker says a person using the trail spotted the body in a heavily wooded area between the paved trail and Cook Inlet, just before 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Fire Island Powers Up
All 11 wind turbines on Fire Island are now generating power for Southcentral Alaska. Officials at Cook Inlet Region Incorporated say they've been testing the turbines and transmission lines for nearly a month now. And today it became official – all of them are feeding into the grid.

Just as they are finishing the clean up from last week's big wind storm, Anchorage is preparing for another high wind event. Downtown Flagpole Snaps During Storm, Reveals Time Capsule
A very special flagpole snapped during the big storm in downtown Anchorage Tuesday night. The 110-foot Sitka spruce log pole was sent up to the citizens of Anchorage from the city of Ketchikan in 1999, according to a plaque found at the veteran's memorial on the Delaney park strip where it stood. The wind sheered the pole at the base.
Thousands Remain Without Power Following Tuesday Wind Storm
Thursday morning thousands of people in Anchorage and the surrounding areas woke up to a second day without power, after Tuesday's major windstorm.
ML&P Customers Wait for Power
Anchorage Municipal Light & Power is having trouble restoring power to some customers after the storm that pounded Southcentral with 80 to 100 mile per hour winds Tuesday night. ML&P officials say they're working as fast as they can, but some residents might not get power back on for a day or two.
Southcentral Braces for Big Storm
The National Weather Service says wind gusts could reach 80 to 100 miles per hour tonight at higher elevations around Anchorage, and 60 miles per hour in town. Power companies are bracing for outages and emergency management officials are asking people to be prepared.
