Daysha Eaton holds a B.A. from Evergreen State College, and a M.A. from the University of Southern California. Daysha got her start in radio at Seattle public radio stations, KPLU and KUOW. Before coming to KBBI, she was the News Director at KYUK in Bethel. She has also worked as the Southcentral Reporter for KSKA in Anchorage.
Daysha's work has appeared on NPR's "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered", PRI's "The World" and "National Native News". She's happy to take assignments, and to get news tips, which are best sent via email.
Daysha became a journalist because she believes in the power of storytelling. Stories connect us and they help us make sense of our world. They shed light on injustice and they comfort us in troubled times. She got into public broadcasting because it seems to fulfill the intention of the 4th Estate and to most effectively apply the freedom of the press granted to us through the Constitution. She feels that public radio has a special way of moving people emotionally through sound, taking them to remote places, introducing them to people they would not otherwise meet and compelling them to think about issues they might ordinarily overlook.

District Braces for $14 Million in Cuts
The Anchorage School District is about ready to roll out its final phase of budget cuts. Administrators need to cut $14 million more to reach the $25 million in cuts needed to balance the budget. Early rounds of cuts eliminated unfilled positions, but the new superintendent says the next phase will involve layoffs.

Student Arrested After Bringing BB Gun to School
An Anchorage high school went into lock down this morning (Tuesday, 1/8) after a student brought a gun to school. Anita Shell is a spokeswoman for the Anchorage Police Department. She says another student saw the gun and reported it to an administrator.
Officers Study Science Behind Deadly Force

Investigation of Anchorage Apartment Fire Points to Arson, Woman Charged
An arrest has been made in connection with the fire that burned a midtown Anchorage apartment building last week. Late Friday the Anchorage Fire Department announced that Jenae Collins had been arrested and charged. Officials with the Anchorage Fire Department say they believe it was arson.
Anchorage Apartment Fire Still Being Investigated
Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of a fire that destroyed a 24-unit apartment building in Midtown Anchorage Thursday morning. Anchorage Fire Department spokesman Al Tagmani says it may take a while because of the scale and intensity of the fire.
Big Fake Apple Bust in Anchorage
Thousands of counterfeit Apple products were recently intercepted at the Anchorage airport. A large shipment of fake Apple computer products was stopped at the Fed Express package handling facility at the Anchorage airport just before the Christmas holiday. Customs and Border Protection officers came across the counterfeit products as they were examining a shipment from China to destinations in the lower 48.

Gas Caucus Gets Pipline Update, Already Crafting Legislation
State lawmakers today heard an update on a proposal to get natural gas from the North Slope to Southcentral Alaska. The project concentrates on in-state delivery, and involves a slightly larger gas line than previous plans.
