Today we’re going to dance class. Three months ago in midtown Anchorage, Studio Pulse opened its doors as the cities newest modern dance studio. Stephanie Wonchala is the founder of the Pulse Dance Company, and runs the studio. The classes offered at Studio Pulse are wide ranging to say the least. Read more.

The Youth Action Committee (YAC), of the Juneau Community Foundation, requests proposals from Juneau non-profit organizations and schools to promote success in high school by increasing awareness of the range of Post Secondary opportunities available for high school graduates. Mt. Edgecumbe High School student Shanelle Afcan delivered a powerful commentary last week on Sitka's KCAW Raven Radio about the disappearance of her Alaska Native culture. The club hosts a youth-led, hour-long monthly radio show on the local public radio station. The show connects the Sitka community to the student community by breaking down youth stereotypes. In 2003, a Sitka couple proposed creating a bear rescue center from the remains of the town’s decommissioned pulp mill – a plan that raised some local hackles. Ten years later, the Fortress of the Bear is home to five brown bears and two new black bear cubs – and it has converted some skeptics, including a local biologist. Download Audio

Today we’re checking out music videos. Alaskan songwriter Marian Call recently released the first music video for her 2011 album Something Fierce. Call says the video began last year as part of her Kickstarter campaign, when she took a poll from her fans.

On their first Christmas together, my parents purchased a simple red aluminum foil star for the top of their small tabletop Christmas tree. In the snapshot they stand on either side of the tree. The star has a large hole in the center, obviously meant for a tree light to be inserted from the back. Read more.
