Allen Moore is the 2013 Copper Basin 300 Champion. The Two Rivers musher crossed the finish line around 11:22 Monday morning. Moore’s victory is an unprecedented fourth in the race’s history.

Liquefied natural gas was on the minds of energy business executives, community leaders, and state lawmakers as they met at the first-ever Alaska LNG Summit in Valdez last week. The two-day summit gave the City an opportunity to show why such a line needs to go through Valdez.
AK: A Tribute
The famous late singer-songwriter John Denver loved the outdoors. Denver got a taste of Alaska’s wilderness on a visit to the state in the 70s. One of his stops was to the McCarthy-Kennecott area. Thirty years later, residents there pay tribute to that visit with a concert. KCHU’s Tony Gorman traveled to McCarthy to attend the fifth and final John Denver Tribute Concert and has this story.
Vessel Grounding Prompts Salmon Hatchery Observation
The Coast Guard is closely watching the Main Bay Salmon Hatchery, 40 miles southeast of Whittier, following the nearby grounding of a fish tender in the Western Prince William Sound. The Coast Guard Sector Anchorage received a report Monday morning that the Raidawn was taking on water after hitting a rock in the area. Coast Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Ferko says the Good Samaritan vessel, Bipolar, was in the area to assist the Coast Guard.
Historic Alaska Roadhouse Destroyed In Blaze
One of Alaska’s historic roadhouses was destroyed by fire over the weekend. Glenn-Rich Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze at the Copper Center Lodge early Sunday morning. Firefighters were unable to save the 116-year-old roadhouse.
Portion Of Copper River Highway Expected To Be Closed For Several Years
A portion of the Copper River Highway is expected to be closed for several more years. The Alaska Department of Transportation announced Wednesday, that one of the highway’s 11 bridges will remain closed until it’s replaced.
Former Exxon Valdez Sold For Scrap
The former Exxon Valdez is heading to the scrap heap. As the 23rd anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill approaches, the tanker that ran aground in Prince William Sound and spilled millions of gallons of oil will be scrapped in Asia. The oil spill wasn’t the Exxon Valdez’s last incident and this isn’t the first time the tanker has changed hands.
Prince William Sound Residents Get Help In Financial Recovery From Storm
Home and business owners in Prince William Sound are getting an opportunity to financially recover from this year’s winter storm. The U.S. Small Business Administration opened Disaster Loan Outreach Centers in Valdez and Cordova, Wednesday, to offer low-interest federal disaster loans to those affected.
