Now its time for our weekly trip around the state. This week, in honor of the Iditarod, we’re heading to the Norton Sound community of Koyuk. The village is eagerly anticipating the mushers’ arrival. That was Darin Douglas, mayor of Koyuk.

Reporter’s Notebook – Ruby – March 8, 2012

There are changes in the air here in Ruby. The weather has been switching between clear and stormy several times over the past two days. I came up by snowmachine from my home in Galena on Wednesday afternoon – departing under bright blue skies and driving into a gray wall of snow about halfway into my trip.

Il Volo Takes Flight

Alone in the Wilderness: Part 1 & 2

Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. Dick Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. Dick filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand. KAKM: Monday, March 5 @ 7:00 p.m.

Ron Paul Visits Alaska

Republican Presidential primary hopeful Ron Paul made a last minute campaign trip to Alaska over the weekend. Paul spoke to packed houses at ‘Town Hall Meetings’ in Anchorage and Fairbanks to rally voters before ‘Super Tuesday’.
