VPA’s The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit
Valley Performing Arts brings to the stage a musical version of the classic tale of a child's favorite toy, The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit from the story by Margery Williams adapted by Anita Larsen with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur opening November 28th and running through December 21st. Actors from the show Sam Allred and Warren Foster come by the studio this week to tell us all about it.

Cyrano’s Alexander… just go back to bed
The popular children's story of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day comes to the Cyrano's Theatre Company stage in a musical version by Judith Viorst and Shelly Markham. Nathan M. Swan (Alexander) doesn't get as far as Australia, but makes his way, along with Director Janet Stoneburner, to the KSKA studios this week to talk about how his day is going. "Alexander" runs November 28th through December 22nd.

UAA’s Twelfth Night, or What You Will
UAA Department of Theatre and Dance's scenic designer Daniel Carlgren is thinking globally and acting locally with his set for Shakespeare's comedy, Twelfth Night, or What You Will opening Nov. 21 and running through Dec. 7 on the UAA Theatre Main Stage. Join Carlgren this week as he talks about going to England to research Elizabethan renaissance theatres before putting one on the UAA stage.

‘night Mother at APU
RKP Productions in collaboration with Anchorage Community Theatre are bringing to the Alaska Pacific University E. R. Brown Auditorium (Grant Hall Theatre) the riviting drama of a mother and daughter dealing with the daughter's dramatic and impending decision in Marsha Norman's Pulitzer Prize winning play, 'night Mother. Producer Dick Reichman and Actor Tiffany Dennis, who plays Jessie in the play, drop by Stage Talk this week. 'night Mother opens November 7th and runs through the 16th.

Anchorage Opera presents Madame Butterfly
As its season premier, Anchorage Opera is presenting one of the most produced operas worldwide in Giacomo Puccini's Madame Butterfly. Also making a premier, of sorts, is new General Director of AO, Reed Smith. Join both Reed as he talks about joining AO and returning favorite Kurt Dougherty who plays Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly this week on Stage Talk.

Perseverance Theatre’s ‘An Illiad’
At its core, theatre is storytelling and in Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare's re-telling of Homer's The Illiad as An Illiad a poet appears in an empty theatre to tell a story about sacrifice, war and the rage of mankind. Bostin Christopher, as The Poet, and Director Art Rotch visit Stage Talk to tell us the story of this remarkable play being presented by Perseverance Theatre in the Sydney Laurence Theatre October 24th through November 2nd.

VPA’s The Canterville Ghost
It's almost Halloween and so why not go visit a haunted house with a ghost that's well... a little frustrated that no one takes him seriously! Valley Performing Arts is presenting the John Vreeke stage adaptation of the Oscar Wilde short story, The Canterville Ghost. Director Wendy Golter and actor Jason Bailey visit Stage Talk this week to help us scare up the story.

Cyrano’s presents Ibsen’s ‘Hedda Gabler’
One of drama's most complex and powerful women comes to the stage as Cyrano's Theatre Company presents Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler in a new translation by Jon Robin Baitz opening October 10th and running through November 2nd. Annia Wyndam who plays the title character and Jamie Nelson who plays her husband, George Tesman join Stage Talk this week to talk about how they have approached these multi-faceted characters.

ACT presents ‘Bell, Book and Candle’
It's that time of year when witches come out... on stage? UAA Presents ‘The Fantasticks’
The world's longest running musical is coming to the University of Alaska Department of Theatre and Dance when Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones' The Fantasticks opens October 3rd in the Jerry Harper Studio Theatre. Part of UAA's season of Shakespeare-related shows, The Fantasticks stands on its own with its story of love, struggle and maturity with a little magic thrown in as well.

Syn Arts present The Rocky Horror Show
Synesthesia Artist Collective or "Syn Arts" is the new company in town and this year they're bringing five productions to the stage starting with the audience participation musical by Richard O'Brien, The Rocky Horror Show at Mad Myrna's opening October 3rd and running through November 8th. Founding Artistic Director Scott Heverling and Actor Paige Langit (who plays "Riff Raff" in Rocky Horror) stop by the studio this week to unveil their season and to talk about a fresh approach to the classic musical.

Perseverance’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and… Spike!”
It's a tale told by one of America's most respected yet unorthodox playwrights, Christopher Durang and Perseverance Theatre of Juneau is bringing it to Anchorage to start off their 2014-15 season. The 2013 Tony Award winning play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is Durang's latest work and actors Patricia Hull and Ben Brown visit the studio to talk about the play, their characters and how they have approached their parts.

Valley Performing Arts presents Anastasia
More of a "who is it?" than a "who dun it" Guy Bolton's English translation of Marcelle Maurette's drama Anastasia will intrigue both history buffs as well as drama aficionados. Director (and history teacher) Grant Olson is having a blast making sure everything is historically accurate along with triple threat Shellie Riggan (actor, property mistress and hair designer). Join Grant and Shellie as they give us a backstage and history tour into Valley Performing Arts' latest offering opening September 5th and running until the 28th.

The University of Alaska Anchorage Department of Theatre and Dance is presenting a season that pays homage to Shakespeare but it's all (or mostly) a facade. Literally. The Music Machine this week on Stage Talk
They've been singing for thirty-three years and dancing for almost that long and now The Music Machine comes to Stage Talk. Hear co-founder Janet Carr-Campbell sing the praises of all those she has worked with over the years and listen to ten-year old singer and dancer phenom Abby Sorum talk about what she loves most about performing. The Music Machine's annual musical revue starring sixty-five children aged six to eighteen opens July 30th and runs through August 2nd at the Performing Arts Center's Discovery Theatre.

Love, Loss and What I Wore at Cyrano’s
Cyrano's Theatre Company is presenting, for the second time, Nora and Delia Ephron's intriguing play about clothing, women and the stories they tell in Love Loss and What I Wore July 21st through August 13th. Director Linda Benson and Danielle Rabinovitch, one of the six talented actors who portray those stories, drop by Stage Talk this week to give us an insider's view into what this play is all about.
