Anchorage Community Theatre’s 2016-2017 Season
It's summertime and that means Stage Talk begins a series of shows featuring upcoming seasons from different performance groups in the area. This week, we have Sara Athans on from Anchorage Community Theatre to talk about all the exciting shows they have planned.

Perseverance Theatre’s Sweeney Todd
KSKA: Friday, May 20 at 2:45p.m.
It's "shave and a hair cut, too SLITS" with Perseverance Theatre's production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's musical thriller, Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Join Artistic Director Art Rotch, Actor Victoria Bundonis and Anchorage General Manager for Perseverance Josh Lowman this week on Stage Talk. Sweeney Todd runs through May 29th in the Discovery Theatre.

Valley Performing Arts presents The Fantasticks

Tune in this week to hear about the longest running musical in the world being presented by Valley Performing Arts. Director Dave Nufer and "El Gallo" Garry Forrester drop by the studio to talk about Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's The Fantasticks which performs through May 29th.

Little Shop of Horrors at Mad Myrnas
The home of "Camp" theatre, Mad Myrnas is presenting for the second year in a row the Alan Menken and Howard Ashman musical Little Shop of Horrors, based on the 1960 low budget black comedy film by Roger Corman. Actors Paige Bohall and Regina MacDonald drop by Stage Talk this week to plant some seeds for discussion. Little Shop of Horrors runs through March 26th.

Dinner and a show, and maybe mo’
Anchorage is getting a new theatre and it's not like any other. Anchorage Dinner Theatre and Last Gap Productions will be presenting Lounge Lizards by Terry Earp opening in the Anchorage City Limits Lofts Hotel Friday, January 22 and running Fridays through Sundays through February 21st. Founder and Director Ron Holmstrom brings a couple of the actors (Julia Cossman and Art Braendel) to Stage Talk this week to give us an appetizer of what is to come. Western Civilization… a musical?
Midnight Sun Theatre in association with Anchorage Community Theatre presents another show from the repertoire of the always hilarious and sometimes enlightening Reduced Shakespeare Company. This time it's Western Civilization, the Complete Musical (abridged) running July 10th through August 1st at ACT. Director David Block and actor Alex Albrecht drop by the studio this week to let us know all about it.

Valley Performing Arts’ South Pacific
It's winter and the thoughts of all Alaskans go to visiting the tropics, and Valley Performing Arts is bringing to the stage Rogers and Hammerstein's classic musical South Pacific. But not all is as simple as "washing that man right outta my hair". Listen in to Stage Talk this week to hear Tanya Hegg (Nellie Forbush) and Ed Gilmore (The Professor) engage in a stimulating discussion of some of the deeper aspects of the play. South Pacific runs March 20th-April 19th in Wasilla.

VPA’s The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit
Valley Performing Arts brings to the stage a musical version of the classic tale of a child's favorite toy, The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit from the story by Margery Williams adapted by Anita Larsen with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur opening November 28th and running through December 21st. Actors from the show Sam Allred and Warren Foster come by the studio this week to tell us all about it.

Cyrano’s Alexander… just go back to bed
The popular children's story of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day comes to the Cyrano's Theatre Company stage in a musical version by Judith Viorst and Shelly Markham. Nathan M. Swan (Alexander) doesn't get as far as Australia, but makes his way, along with Director Janet Stoneburner, to the KSKA studios this week to talk about how his day is going. "Alexander" runs November 28th through December 22nd.

UAA Presents ‘The Fantasticks’
The world's longest running musical is coming to the University of Alaska Department of Theatre and Dance when Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones' The Fantasticks opens October 3rd in the Jerry Harper Studio Theatre. Part of UAA's season of Shakespeare-related shows, The Fantasticks stands on its own with its story of love, struggle and maturity with a little magic thrown in as well.

Syn Arts present The Rocky Horror Show
Synesthesia Artist Collective or "Syn Arts" is the new company in town and this year they're bringing five productions to the stage starting with the audience participation musical by Richard O'Brien, The Rocky Horror Show at Mad Myrna's opening October 3rd and running through November 8th. Founding Artistic Director Scott Heverling and Actor Paige Langit (who plays "Riff Raff" in Rocky Horror) stop by the studio this week to unveil their season and to talk about a fresh approach to the classic musical.

The Music Machine this week on Stage Talk
They've been singing for thirty-three years and dancing for almost that long and now The Music Machine comes to Stage Talk. Hear co-founder Janet Carr-Campbell sing the praises of all those she has worked with over the years and listen to ten-year old singer and dancer phenom Abby Sorum talk about what she loves most about performing. The Music Machine's annual musical revue starring sixty-five children aged six to eighteen opens July 30th and runs through August 2nd at the Performing Arts Center's Discovery Theatre.

Let’s roast a little Brunhilde at Das Barbecu
Summertime is the perfect time for a...barbecu? It is if it is a Texas take-off of one of Richard Wagner's classic opera's, Der Ring des Nibelungen called Das Barbecu. Seems the good folks who like opera also like to have a little fun and so Jim Luigs and Scott Warrender decided to write a musical that features characters from Wagner's classic tale but set in Texas. Confusing? Then listen this week to Stage Talk as director Regina MacDonald and actor Tiffany Chancey stop by to talk about Cyrano's Theatre Company's latest offering which opens July 17th and runs through August 24th.

Takin’ the summer road trip to Talkeetna
There's a lot of Theatre going on just up the road a piece in Talkeetna this summer. Nick Condon, Denali Arts Council's Director of Drama, has two shows coming up: the musical Schoolhouse Rock that features favorite songs like "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just a Bill" and an improv show called appropriately enough, Iditaprov. Schoolhouse Rock runs July 25, 26 and 27 at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar.

MST’s The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!)
