- Tuesdays at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm in July - Freakonomics - Hosted by Stephen Dubner, with co-author Steve Levitt as a regular guest [APM / WNYC]. Kids These Days has come to an end. Replacement program TBA.
- Wednesdays at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm July - The TED Hour - A journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create. Based on riveting TED Talks from the world's most remarkable minds. Hometown, Alaska returns in August.
- Saturdays at 1:00 pm - Radiolab continues. Initially a limited series set conclude in August, Radiolab is now being produced on a weekly basis and will continue to be apart of the regular Saturday line-up on KSKA.

Kristopher Peck rides his custom built seatless unicycle across ice and snow in Whittier, Alaska.
Filmed in March 2011, this seven minute movie also captures a snapshot in time of a mysterious and isolated rural Alaskan town.

All About Oysters (and Recipes for the Grill).
“The best thing about oyster farming is knowing I’m bringing to market the finest oysters in the world,” said Oyster Farmer Mike Nakada when asked why he loves his work.
Nakada had been an Alaskan fisherman for over 40 years before he switched to oyster farming.

Solo the Rescued Sitka Black Tailed Fawn
On June 29th, AWCC staff received an orphaned sitka black tailed deer from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, arriving on Alaska Airlines Flight 67 from Ketchikan.
The orphaned fawn will spend the rest of its days at the Portage facility.

Grant Supports Juneau Transitional Housing Program
The Juneau Community Foundation (JCF) granted $5,000 to Haven House, Inc., on behalf of the Machamer Fund, a donor-directed fund of the Foundation.
The grant will be used to help fund Haven House staffing.

Kenny Lake Students Premiere Historical Railway Documentary
Students in the award-winning documentary filmmaking program at Kenny Lake School, a small K-12 school in the rural town of Copper Center, Alaska, recently premiered their 90-minute documentary Iron Rails: The Story of the Copper River and Northwestern Railway.
The film, which was supported by a 2010 Alaska Humanities Forum We the People grant of $6,000, has won first place in the Alaska Society for Technology in Education (ASTE) 2012 documentary film contest.

AK: A Tribute
The famous late singer-songwriter John Denver loved the outdoors. Denver got a taste of Alaska’s wilderness on a visit to the state in the 70s. One of his stops was to the McCarthy-Kennecott area. Thirty years later, residents there pay tribute to that visit with a concert. KCHU’s Tony Gorman traveled to McCarthy to attend the fifth and final John Denver Tribute Concert and has this story.
Mourning the Death of a Rescued Beluga Calf
The Alaska SeaLife Center is saddened to announce the loss of the rescued beluga calf found stranded following a storm in South Naknek, Alaska on June 18.

Pursuing African Peace Through Film
Kodiak Based non-profit Media Action Has been awarded a $119,595 Grant from United States Institute of Peace.
Funding will support a training program in conflict resolution and peacebuilding skills for at–risk youth in the West Nile region of Uganda.

Berlin, Paris and London-Part One of Three
To a baby boomer like me who grew up in the fifties learning how to crawl under a desk in case of nuclear attacks or being told to watch out for Communists lurking under everyone’s bed, the idea of vacationing in Berlin this past June seemed daunting.
Husband Dave and I landed at Tegel Airport, then taxied to a Best Western located in the Mitte section of formerly East Berlin.
