Two New Wildfires Reported Over Weekend
Alaska's wildfires continue to burn, with two new ones reported northwest of Kantishna, in the heart of Denali National Park. The Chisana Creek fire in Wrangell Saint Elias National Park is not being fought, but authorities plan to set up a headquarters in Beaver Creek, Canada to keep watch on it.

Man Dies After Moose, Motorcycle Collision
A motorcycle collision with a moose on the Glenn Highway left a man dead and his passenger in critical condition. Driver Ryan Beachy, 29, of Sutton was southbound at Mile 92.5 Tuesday night, when the moose went into the road and got hit. Beacy and the moose were dead at the scene. Injured was Tracy Bushnell, 25, of Indian.
Arctic Officials Receive Comments On Policy From Alaskans
The Obama administration’s top officials dealing with Arctic issues were in Anchorage Friday looking for comments from Alaskans about their new Arctic Policy. They got plenty of them, from a standing room-only crowd.

Co-Housing
A group of Anchorage residents is ready to build Alaska’s first co-housing project. A form of condominium, co-housing is not really accounted for in current zoning codes, but may be a housing option preferable to those who seek a sustainable future in an urban environment. It reduces costs and is without the privacy concerns that room-mate situations have. In order to do it, you have to put your money on the line.

Body Discovered Near Bartlett High School
Monday a body was found in a wooded area near Bartlett High School in Anchorage. Police say the body was decomposed and there are no obvious signs of foul play. An autopsy may help discover the cause of death. No identity yet released.
Man Drowns In Butte Creek After ATV Rollover
An all-terrain vehicle loaded with three people tipped in Butte Creek last Friday and one person was later pulled out dead.
Woman Attacked By Moose In Kincaid Park
A woman was attacked by a cow moose in Kincaid Park in Anchorage Monday. Parks and Rec says the incident occurred when the woman and her husband were taking an evening walk on the Mize Loop Trail and inadvertently came between the moose and her calf.
No Charges To Be Levied Against Man Who Shot Moose In Denali Park
The National Park Service says there will be no charges against the man who shot a cow moose last week near the Denali National Park visitor center.
Man Dies After Falling Overboard In Copper River Delta
A man overboard from a fishing vessel in the Copper River Delta could not be revived when he was pulled back aboard Monday. He's identified as Cornell Perry Bean Junior, 40, of Kake, who went overboard from the "Esperanza." They say he was only in the water for about ten minutes.

Oil Leasing Official Hearing Input on Arctic Exploration

Military Construction, Veterans Affairs Bill Passes US House
The U.S. House has passed a $73.5 billion Military Construction Appropriations bill, which includes Veterans Administration programs. About $200 million of that would be spent in Alaska. Representative Don Young says the bill includes money to start reducing a backlog of VA claims.
Cargo Vessel Detained In Valdez After Oily Leak Discovered
A cargo vessel has been detained at the dock in Valdez because something oily is leaking out of its containers. The Caribbean-registered "BBC Arizona" was delivering construction beams when the leak was discovered.

Alaska Airlines Announces Direct Flights To Las Vegas, Phoenix
Alaska Airlines announced a schedule of December direct flights between Anchorage and Las Vegas, with a special promotional fare on Tuesday. It is also introducing a Phoenix direct route at that time. And it says it will be bringing in Horizon Air planes for some in-state routes beginning next March.
Verizon To Offer 4G LTE In Alaska
The long awaited entry of telecommunications carrier Verizon into the Alaska market is now happening. The company announced it is about to light up its 4G LTE network in the more urban parts of the state and begins taking customers for data transmission Friday.
Couple Hit By Sedan Near Anchorage Airport
Early Saturday morning a man assaulted a couple from the Pribilof Islands with his car in the parking lot of a hotel near the Anchorage airport. Reportedly the vehicle was occupied by two people, who first accosted the couple with insults and then went after them with the car.
BP Announces $1 Billion Expansion On North Slope
BP today announced a billion dollar spending program for the North Slope. The company said this decision was made because of changes made in Alaska's oil tax. BP said some of the spending could come this year. Later BP plans to bring two more drilling rigs to the Slope by 2016 and says it is evaluating another $3 billion of development projects with its partners in the western end of the Prudhoe Bay area. And it says it is ready to start selling its natural gas.
