Cantwell Gas Station Burns Down
Sunday, a fire evening burned down a Chevron gas station near Cantwell. State Troopers say the fire apparently was apparently started by an explosion inside the convenience store.

Man Dies in Nikiski House Fire

Seven Indicted For Federal Gun Crimes
Seven Anchorage residents have been indicted for federal gun crimes. They are accused of theft and dealing stolen firearms. Federal prosecutors say the guns were stolen from the Three Bears store in Wasilla in mid-October.
Ordinance Forbids Sitting on Anchorage Sidewalks
The Anchorage Assembly last night passed a new version of Mayor Dan Sullivan's ordinance outlawing sitting on municipal sidewalks. A number of people from the Occupy Anchorage protest were in the room and watched the vote, which was seven to four.
Man Shot, Killed North of Willow
There was a fatal shooting Sunday night in a home in the Sheep Creek area north of Willow. Reported dead is Ronald D. Gunter, 61, shot in the head during some sort of fight. Investigation continues and so far there are no charges.
Woman Freezes to Death in Aniak
A woman froze to death in Aniak Sunday morning. Candi Nickolie, 22, had been drinking with friends and went outside with them. Her body was found about 150 feet from her home.
Two More Ft. Wainwright Soldiers Killed
Two more Fort Wainwright-based Stryker Brigade soldiers were killed in Kandahar Province in Afghanistan this week. Specialist James R. Burnett, 21, of Wichita, Kansas, and PFC Matthew C. Colin, 22, of Navarre, Florida, were killed when their unit was hit by an improvised explosive device on Wednesday.
Crews Assessing Damage to Cordova Ferry Dock
Add a ferry dock to the list of things damaged by storms in the past week. They tried to dock the state ferry Fairweather in Cordova Thursday and discovered they couldn't. They are doing a damage assessment of the Cordova dock now.

Second Ft. Wainwright Soldier Reported Killed in Afghanistan Over Weekend
Two Fort Wainwright-based Stryker Brigade soldiers were killed over the weekend in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province.
Saturday Specialist Calvin Matthew Pereda, 21, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died when his unit was attacked while on patrol. Two other soldiers were injured in the attack.
