In 1897 the American Museum of Natural History sent a team of anthropologists to the Pacific Northwest and Siberia. Six years later, they had confirmed the theory that humans migrated across the Bering land bridge. The Anchorage Daily News is changing hands, bought by the Alaska Dispatch website and its owner, Alice Rogoff. Tony Hopfinger, who left the Daily News as a reporter to start the Dispatch in his spare bedroom, returns as executive editor. According to the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, nearly 2,000 Alaskan children were in out-of-home placement in January 2014. The vast majority of those cases were due to child abuse and neglect.
