Gary Snyder Presents Poems, Old and New
World renowned, Pulitzer prize-winning poet and naturalist, Gary Snyder returned to Alaska in early July. As part of the Evening Author Readings at UAA, Snyder read poems he wrote in the early years while living in Japan. He also shared some of his new work which has yet to be published and read from "Mountains and Rivers Without End," a book of poems partly inspired by his time spent in Alaska. - Saturdays at 1:00 pm - Radiolab continues. Initially a limited series set conclude in August, Radiolab is now being produced on a weekly basis and will continue to be apart of the regular Saturday line-up on KSKA.
Kids These Days! Radio Ends, Website Continues
Kids These Days! heard Tuesdays on KSKA produced its final episode this week, however the website - kidsthesedays.org - lives on. The independently-funded, award-winning radio program gave us glimpse inside the life of Alaska's kids today and kept us all connected at to each other and our community at kidsthesedays.org. Piled with tons of fun blogs, helpful family resources and a complete archive of past programs, we hope you will keep the conversations rolling about "Raising Alaska's Future Today" on kidsthesedays.org.
Margaret Flowers, Protesting for Change
Last week Line One featured Dr. Ted Epperly and his study of our health care crisis and suggestions for change. This week our guest is Dr. Margaret Flowers of Physicians for National Health Care Program which believes what we need is a universal, comprehensive single-payer national health insurance. Margaret Flowers is a Maryland pediatrician with experience as a hospitalist at a rural hospital and in private practice.

Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids
Alaska Fine Arts Academy presents The Jungle Book Kids Fridays and Saturday July 6 - 21 at the Bear Paw Festival in Eagle River. Specially adapted from the beloved film, this musical includes all the favorite Disney songs, like "The Bear Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You."

Chief Justice John Roberts said the requirement that individuals have health coverage or pay a penalty falls within Congress' power to impose taxes. Surveying My Life: Journeys from Alaska and the Southern Sky
Bartlett High School graduate, Brian Schmidt received the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe through observations of distant supernovae. In June Brian stopped by the UAA Bookstore to talk about the importance of his Alaska education and his current projects, including building a new telescope to map the Southern Sky. Today Brian is an astronomer at the Australian National University's Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
