While her story may be hidden from the history books, the first woman to run for President of the U.S. in 1872, Victoria Woodhull will finally be introduced to theater audiences when Anchorage Opera presents the world premiere of "Mrs. President" in October. In anticipation of the opera, "Mrs. President" composer Victoria Bond joined Alaskan trailblazers Arliss Sturgulewski, Senator Bettye Davis, Jane Angvik, Georgiana Lincoln and Cynthia Toohey for a panel discussion moderated by APRN's Lori Townsend on "Women in America: Changing Roles, Challenging Times, Defining the Future." Already one of the most generous film tax incentive programs in the country, the Alaska Film Incentive Program will receive a boost in July allowing movie makers to receive a 50 percent credit on all wages paid to Alaskan writers, producers and directors. This development spurred Affinityfilms, Inc., a nonprofit educational media production company based in Anchorage to create the Alaska Pilot Project. The project aims at to educate local writers in the craft of writing for television with the ultimate goal of launching a television series set in and filmed in Alaska. KSKA: Monday at 1:00 pm
