Arctic Entries on KSKA
Every community has a place, where people gather and stories are told. The east coast has stoops, the south has porches and in Alaska we have Arctic Entries. Here, Alaskans share their personal stories - funny, sad and sweet.
Originally told at the Arctic Entries monthly storytelling event in Anchorage, listen to seven people tell a seven-minute-long true story related to the show’s theme during a special 5-part series of Arctic Entries Tuesdays in October on KSKA FM 91.1.
KSKA: Tuesdays in October at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm
Arctic Entries: Sourdoughs
On the first episode of Arctic Entries Radio Hour we are going to hear stories about Self-starters, Pioneers and Homesteaders. Yes, the theme is Sourdoughs. As many of you know, we call our old-timer Alaskans “sourdoughs.” It’s a nickname that generated way back in the Gold Rush times when miners used to carry their pouch of sourdough starter around their neck. And on this episode of Arctic Entries, we will hear from old-timers but we’ll also hear from newer Alaskans who happen to be pioneers of sorts...in their own way.
KSKA: Tuesday 10/2 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm
Arctic Imperative Summit
October on Addressing Alaskans listen to a special 4-part series featuring talks from 2nd annual Arctic Imperative Summit hosted by the Alaska Dispatch in Girdwood. As the Arctic sea ice melts back to a new record, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, Alaska Native Corporations, foreign investment and oil companies, Alaska fisheries, local and international political leaders come together to discuss the many questions facing us regarding what's next in Arctic.
KSKA: Thursdays in October at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm (10/18 at 8:00 pm)

The Alaska Pilot Project
Already one of the most generous film tax incentive programs in the country, the Alaska Film Incentive Program will receive a boost in July allowing movie makers to receive a 50 percent credit on all wages paid to Alaskan writers, producers and directors. This development spurred Affinityfilms, Inc., a nonprofit educational media production company based in Anchorage to create the Alaska Pilot Project. The project aims at to educate local writers in the craft of writing for television with the ultimate goal of launching a television series set in and filmed in Alaska.
