Procession held in Anchorage for fallen Fairbanks police officer
The body of fallen Fairbanks Police Sergeant Allen Brandt has returned home. Processions were held Tuesday in Anchorage, where people gathered along the streets in honor of Sgt. Brandt, as his remains were taken to the airport for transport back to Fairbanks. Listen Now
Fairbanks community mourns fallen officer
Fairbanks is mourning the loss of a police officer. Thirty four year old Sergeant Allen Brandt, who was shot earlier this month, died Friday of complications following surgery to remove shrapnel from one of his eyes. Community members gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night to honor and remember the 11 year FPD veteran. Listen Now
University of Alaska seeks cuts to skiing and indoor track programs
The University of Alaska is recommending elimination of 6 sports teams. Under the cost saving proposal rolled out at an Anchorage press conference by UA President Jim Johnsen Thursday, the University of Alaska Fairbanks would lose its cross-country ski teams, and the University of Alaska Anchorage would drop its ski and indoor track squads. LNG rail shipments to begin demonstrations
The Alaska Railroad will be the first to transport liquefied natural gas by rail in the United States. The Alaska Railroad Corporation was granted permission by the Federal Railroad Administration to move LNG last year and testing is slated to start next week.
