Sentencing Date Pushed Back For Cox

The sentencing date has been delayed for the leader of an Alaska militia convicted of conspiring to murder federal officials and owning illegal weapons. KSRM reports Schaeffer Cox will now be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Anchorage on Jan. 7 instead of Nov. 19. This will allow his new attorney to become familiar with the case.

Man Shot, Killed In Downtown Anchorage

Anchorage police say a man died after a shooting outside a downtown nightclub in Anchorage. Shortly before police responded to Platinum Jaxx nightclub early Sunday morning, an officer found another man a few blocks away who was critically injured with penetrating wounds. Police say the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Proposal Would Require Legislative Mine Approval

A proposed ballot initiative would require legislative approval for a large-scale mine in the Bristol Bay region. The "Bristol Bay Forever" initiative application was sent to Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell for review earlier this week.

The Coast Guard says it has suspended the search for a 62-year-old crewman who fell overboard from a fishing vessel near Skagway in southeast Alaska waters.

Search Suspended For Palmer Pilot

The search for a Palmer pilot missing since Oct. 13 has been suspended. The 11th Air Force Rescue Coordination Center says the search for 27-year-old Brendan Mattingly was called off Tuesday. Mattingly was last seen at the Soldotna Airport as he was leaving for Palmer in his PA-18 Super Cub.

Anchorage police have released the identity of the woman whose body was found in a church parking lot. Police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker says in a release that the homicide victim was Marya Abramcyzyk. The 44-year-old woman was from Anchorage.

A woman was found dead Tuesday morning in an Anchorage church parking lot and police say she is the victim of a homicide. Police Lt. Dave Parker says two neighbors spotted the woman and attempted to come to her aid. They called police at 8:14 a.m.

Pilot OK After Floatplane Crashes In Anchorage

A pilot escaped injury after crashing her floatplane while trying to land at the seaplane base in Anchorage. Clint Johnson with the National Transportation Safety Board says the plane is owned and operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Johnson says the plane crashed after losing control during touchdown. Anchorage Daily News reports that as of Sunday afternoon, the plane was underwater and surrounded by booms to try to contain the leaking oil.
