Senator Calls On Governor To Expand Medicaid
A prominent Democrat in the state Senate is calling on Governor Bill Walker to expand Medicaid in Alaska without approval from the legislature. Anchorage Senator Bill Wielechowski says now that the Supreme Court has upheld insurance subsidies in Alaska there is no reason not to expand Medicaid.

State Applauds Supreme Court Ruling On Subsidies
More than 16,000 Alaskans will keep their health insurance subsidies under a ruling issued Thursday by the United States Supreme Court. The Court ruled 6 to 3 in favor of the argument that the Affordable Care Act allows residents in states like Alaska to access federal subsidies on healthcare.gov.

5.8-Magnitude Quake Rattles Mainland Alaska
The earthquake was centered 64 miles west of Willow. Alaskans from a large section of the state -- from Seward, Fairbanks, Denali and the Mat Su Valley reported the shaking.

This week, we're hearing from (A- dean) Adine Fullerton, a Willow resident who evacuated her home on Monday because of the Sockeye fire. Adine left with three kids, five dogs, two cats, a hamster. She had to leave three tarantulas behind. When we talked to her she had just discovered her home was spared, along with the spiders. Adine Fullerton evacuated from her home in Willow because of the Sockeye fire.
Running Alaska’s Mount Marathon Race
The Mount Marathon race in Seward is the Super Bowl of Alaskan sports. Each July 4th, racers charge up Mount Marathon - a climb of more than 3,000 feet, and then descend in a matter of minutes in a burst of speed that can look like a controlled fall. A new documentary tells the story of the race through the perspective of several Mount Marathon legends.

State Takes Control of Nursing Facility, Citing Repeated Violations

‘Story Map’ Reveals Hidden Lives of Anchorage Bears
A new map from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game offers a bear's eye view of Anchorage. The "story map" draws on data and video collected from nine bears- six black and three brown- who wore cameras on special collars in 2012 and 2013. The videos capture bears playing with lawn art, slurping up barbecue grease and running across busy intersections.
Anchorage Church Officials Lead Rally For Medicaid Expansion
Hundreds of Anchorage residents gathered in Cuddy park Thursday night to rally for Medicaid expansion. The event was organized by AFACT, Anchorage Faith & Action Congregations Together- a coalition of local churches. Organizers hope the rally will make a difference as lawmakers enter the final days of the legislative session.

Lawmaker Sends Questionable Email On Medicaid Expansion
A Republican lawmaker from Eagle River sent an e-mail Friday attempting to rally opposition to Medicaid expansion. In the email, obtained by KTUU, Lora Reinbold distributes the call-in number to testify at a Saturday House Finance hearing. She writes, "We are trying not to get the number out to the pro expansion for they are much more organized.”
