Valdez police are reporting that a 17-year old girl has fallen 70 feet off a cliff into Port Valdez.
Police were called to the scene just after 6:30 on Friday night. The teenager had fallen off a cliff near Dock Point Trail and suffered life threatening injuries.
Police say the young woman’s friends had rescued her from the water but were unable to move her from the shoreline because of her injuries.
Emergency crews had treated her at the scene before taking her to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
Valdez Police Department spokeswoman Allie Hendrickson says the incident is being investigated but it appears to have been an accident.
Police say the next of kin have been notified. Hendrickson says they can’t release the victim’s name because she’s a minor.
