A Fairbanks International Airport official says a small plane with three people aboard has crashed off the south end of the airport. Airport division operations manager Angie Spear says one person has died and the other two are injured.
Spear says all three occupants were taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital after the crash about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
No additional information about the victims was immediately available.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the Cessna 150 crashed on take-off.
The aircraft came to rest about 300 yards off the runway. It appeared to have crashed nose-first into a ditch separated from a frontage road by a fence.
Spear says the main runway was shut down for about 20 minutes after the crash.
A National Transportation Safety Board investigator has responded.
