A 19-year-old Anchorage student was arrested Thursday for carrying a loaded handgun on a school bus.
Anchorage School District Superintendent Carol Comeau says that the student was exiting a bus at the King Career Center when the gun fell out of his pocket.
“The bus driver reported it to their dispatch, then the police were contacted, and the school resource officers from East High School came immediately over from the King Career Center, interviewed the young man, arrested him, confiscated the weapon,” Comeau said. “It’s my understanding he’s being arraigned this [Thursday] afternoon.”
The district identified the student as Bryan Briggs, a Benny Benson Secondary School student.
Comeau says that the Anchorage School District has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to firearms and is recommending Briggs be expelled.
Comeau says that the district contacted East High and King Career Center parents to notify them of the incident.
