Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the whale was last seen Wednesday as it swam south in Seymour Canal near Windfall Harbor. NOAA is asking the public to report any sightings of the whale, which has been dragging yellow floating line and pink-and-orange buoys.

Officials said NOAA-trained responders arrived at the scene early Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports earlier that day. According to officials, weather prevented responders from freeing the adult whale, which appeared otherwise healthy.
Officials said that anyone who sees the animal should stay at least 100 yards away. They said it would be extremely dangerous to free such a massive animal that is likely stressed.
